... like it being free day at the zoo
... and not just any zoo... the zoo where kids can climb on the railings and no-one yells at them
... the zoo that lives by one simple rule: there must be at least 50 monkeys in residence at all times :)
... today they had 52 - one monkey just had twins :)
... they also have a new rescued bald eagle in the empty-for-a-long-time cage of the last rescued bald eagle (RIP)
... the new eagle's name is Spirit
... if i had a pet bald eagle (rescued, naturally) i'd surely call him Spirit and take Spirit for walks perched on my shoulder for the world to see :)
... carrousel rides were a dollar too and i actually had dollar bills and didn't have to charge it or break a hundred :)
... Danny got to ride on the bald eagle naturally
... i had to lift him onto that bald eagle while holding a baby under one arm and a camera with no strap in the other hand :|
... but it's OK because i have superhuman strength and am pretty adept at juggling babies and cameras and dropping neither :)
... the person running the carrousel actually seemed to a) like children b) not want to molest them
... the zoo was completely empty despite it being free day
... and the light was perfect
... and the weather was perfect
... and the gift store had toys for under a dollar for parents suckered into buying something for their little darling :)
... we got two boa constrictors for $1.07 :)
... they even had the side gate open to the carpark
... which shaves a good 45 seconds off the 7.5 minute journey to and from the zoo :)
... that side gate is always always always locked
... but today it was open for the first time ever :)
... and all these little things made my day
:)
