what we did this weekend

we english-shopped in mission viejo at ye olde african hut english store. for the past year i was absolutely sure this store was in san francisco and upon googling it endlessly i found it was actually just 14 miles from my house :| mission viejo IS two words like san francisco and both have a spanish sound, so i am guessing that is where i got confused :)

as i have mentioned a few times this "shoppe" (indeed an african hut with animal skin carpet, skulls and everything) sells my favorite english disinfectant and just one little bottle of hyacinth disinfectant is like a 90 day supply of amphetamines for the olfactory system. i also bought some very suspiciously like Malteser thingies, by Cadbury - so i had high hopes for them - but they aren't half as good as Maltesers, though they do bite perfectly in half much more easily than Maltesers. biting a Malteser should be an olympic sport, it takes years of practice and dedication

after an indian feast for dinner (we decided to think outside the box and have chicken tikka masala :) we watched the Notebook. it is about the 3rd time i have tried to watch it but this time i was determined to watch it to the end. ho hum. i am so so bad at keeping my mind on the story and not obsessing about random details, like how come peaches were 3 for a dollar in the early 40s when they are about that price today in Sprouts and how come they didn't get oil or tar stains on their clothes lying in the middle of the road. Aaron just sits and enjoys the story (and can keep track of it....i didn't get that they were dead in the last scene) but i just sit and worry about impossible sticky tar stains and overpriced fruit.

this morning we went to Los Angeles... always fun :| especially when you have replaced your detailed maps of LA with Colorado on your GPS and you have to resort to the Thomas Guide. we arrived eventually at Griffith Park. ok, i am a mom and everything but i just find these places so disappointing. too dark/too many people/too few interesting things to do/too many people/oops i mentioned that already. the highlight was the strangely spooky woman who narrated the Water Is Life laser show whose voice had the strangest spookiest intonations i have EVER heard. bar none! it was so weird i was kicking myself for forgetting my flip, and leapt to look for snippets of "War-duuuhr Eees Liii-uhhfe" on you-tube when i got home. anyway, the boys had a good time (i think??) despite the inevitable showdown in the gift store....

  1. I love the family shot. Great!
When we went to the observatory, it was way to bright for pictures, and like you said there are always too many people at places like it.

Q: Are you a sucker or a biter?
(And do you want me to send you some 'real' Maltesers'?)

  3. oh, when we went to Griffith Park last year, i fell in love with the light on the little train and decided to skip everything else ;-)

  4. I have very fond memories of Maltesers, my Granddad used to bring me a packet of them and a packet of Opal Fruits when he used to visit on a Sunday.

Now I'm just partial to Cadbury's Flakes ;-)
